Vision Forum

Over the past year or so, I have been doing a lot of research into homeschooling and family organizing. I found a lot of useful resources from Vision Forum. We love the seminar cds and Christian books as well as their toys. I am grateful for their help and encouragement to our family!

Sail Away

Though I have not taken the time to blog, I have been sewing. With just a week or two until my grandmother came, I decided to make a quilt for her. I picked an Ikea sheet for the background (the color is nearest to Kona Glacier), and cut it into 6 inch squares. As I love FilmintheFridge's Dinner Date and Flying Farfalle quilts and they are so easy to make, I was going to make one of those. My 6 year old wanted to help, so I let her pick out the fabrics for each of the triangles. As I made each of the blocks, she would lay them out into "wonky diamonds." As I finished piecing all the blocks, she begged me to sew the quilt like that. Since the quilt was going to be a gift from both of us, I just went with it (though I wasn't sold on the idea)!
When I was almost finished piecing the top, I tried to sew my finger into the quilt, resulting in a trip to the ER. After that, I asked my sister to help me finish the quilt. She quilted it and did most of the binding. We named the quilt "Sail Away" because some of the wonky diamonds look like sail boats. (Click on any of the pictures and then click again to see more detail.)

Most importantly, my grandmother LOVED the quilt!

The back is made pieced from leftovers from the front. You can see the quilted lines much better here!

I just wrote the label on the quilt.

Just because my sister loves folded quilts!
